This weekend is our last training session together with the squad. The Winter training is over and we have already begun events, the biggest are yet to come. This weekend will focus on just that, the hard hitters of the year. We will primarily be focusing on Medemblik, an event which the Topper class returns to having previously hosted a number of times; this might be something to ask an older sailor about?
Lets start the notes for the weekend at a high level with some event prep.
2 of these 5 statements are false. Can you tell me which ones and what they should be instead?
We can expect to see conditions similar to lake sailing
Medemblik is famously a light wind event
Holland is known for its mountainous terrain
There is a very straight coastline near the racing area which affects the wind
It is hotter than Northern Ireland
This weekend we are at BYC, its giving a bit of a heatwave, so perhaps a little less wind and hopefully steadier. We are going to focus on creating pressurised situations, thinking starts, mark roundings, but also having a look at what to do if we don’t manage to be front row (in the unlikely scenario this might happen).
We have some questions!
If we get covered, what should we do?
How will the fleet scoring work from the qualifying to finals?
Who is Roger Craig?
What is the furthest distance you can throw a tea-bag into a mug (video if you are feeling brave)?
A list of the spares you are taking to Holland?
This weekend will have a mix of coaches, (Lucy, Hammy, Roger, Me) who will be switching out with each other between the days. I will be there on Sunday but if anyone has any questions feel free to fire me a message before!
See you this weekend!
